Lip balms are my secret weapon

Simple 2x4 Photo Grid

Clockwise, from the top left: Revlon lip butter in Fig Jam, Benecos lipstick in Toffee, Burts Bees lip shimmer in Fig, Burts Bees lip crayon in Redwood Forest. I do get really excited about this

A good lip product to me is the equivalent of a stress ball. A secret weapon I can carry around in my handbag and whip out everytime I need a pick me up or a bit of emotional support. Recently I have been on a seriously satisfying quest for the perfect Your-Lips-But-Better lip colour and decided that I would share my findings on here. Because, why not. If a great lipstick doubles up as a lip balm, I get really excited. If it is made of natural ingredients, I am seriously overjoyed. If I can apply it on the go without the need for a mirror, this is perfection. And they all have to be flattering on their own (undereye concealer is allowed).

I give you my top 4 YLBB lip colours:

REVLON Colorburst Lip Butter – Fig Jam

Not entirely natural but not too bad for a high-street product, it is very moisturising, delivers a warm brown healthy hue and is forgiving enough that it can be reapplied without looking at your reflection! Right now, it is my absolute favourite. Discontinued in the UK but you can still find it on Amazon…

Benecos Natural Lipstick, Toffee, 4.5 g

This European brand of organic makeup is incredibly good value. Their lipsticks are entirely made with natural ingredients and very moisturizing. I wish they had a wider choice of colours. Toffee is a beautiful, shimmer-free colour that goes on smoothly and lasts for hours.

Burt’s Bees 100% Natural Lip Shimmer, Fig, 2.6g

These lip shimmers are supposed to be balms primarily but I don’t find them that nourishing or protective. However, some of the shades are truly beautiful and not all of them contain that much shimmer. By now you will have figured out I am not a fan of shimmer. At least not in lip products. Fig is a great YLBB for me in any season. Two other colours that would work great for different complexions are Raisin and Plum.

Two points for improvement, as far as I am concerned: 1- I do not like the minty taste and feel 2- you really have to apply in a mirror as the colour can be uneven at first.

Burt’s Bees 100% Natural, Matte Lip Crayon, Redwood Forest, 3.11 g

This is a muted brown toned red lipstick which if applied very sparingly fits in my YLBB category. I do not reach for it so much at the minute as it is not as moisturizing as the others but if you like very matte finish it is the one to go for. Probably the winner of my list in terms of staying power.

Very well done for reading thus far. I was planning on taking some great photographs of me wearing each shade Instagram style but it did not quite work out. Oh well.

Any other YLBB product out there I should know about? Tell me everything!
